Pool safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Drowning can be a silent catastrophe, one that can happen in the few minutes you take to answer a phone call or run inside for a towel. Florida leads the country in drowning deaths of children ages 1–4.

We have a very dedicated team here in South Florida that have just finished their inaugural year of SPUD Students Preventing Unintentional Drownings. Student Preventing Unintentional Drowning’s (S.P.U.D) is a teen Water Smart Ambassador club devoted to advocating for water safety. This Ambassador club will allow high school students to influence and educate their community. Through this club, members will increase their knowledge on water safety practices and learn actions that can be taken to prevent future drowning incidences. Club members will use creative ways and methods to deliver water safety messages. This club is designed to help address the awareness needs throughout Broward County and to allow for professional and leadership development among club members.

S.P.U.D. will provide all students with necessary service hours for qualifying activities. Certificates will be given to all active club members at the end of each school year. Seniors will receive a S.P.U.D chord for graduation. Possible lifeguard scholarship opportunities are available for a select number of members in the Broward County S.P.U.D. club who excel and demonstrate an active leadership role as a water safety advocate. · Award Ceremony · Service Hours · Qualified Seniors receive a Chord for graduation · Lifeguard scholarship available for students who excel in S.P.U.D. program
